UC Sends Welcome E-mail To Rejected Students

SAN DIEGO (AP) ?The University of California, San Diego accidentally sent a welcome e-mail to about 29,000 applicants who had been rejected.
The e-mail sent Monday evening invited all 47,000 students who applied to an admitted students’ day on campus.
UCSD Admissions Director Mae Brown apologized for the mistake Tuesday and explained that the e-mail was supposed to go to about 18,000 accepted students.
Less than two hours after the error, she sent out another mass e-mail apologizing for distress it may have caused to anxious applicants and their families, Brown told The Associated Press.
Talk about a BAD April Fool’s Day prank.
After 72 years, TV’s `Guiding Light’ switching off
April 1, 2009, 12:48 PM EST
NEW YORK (AP) — The soap opera “Guiding Light” is switching off after a 72-year run that predates television.
CBS says the show will have its final episode in September. Like most daytime dramas, “Guiding Light” has suffered from declining ratings and CBS is looking for a lower-cost alternative to the hour of programming.
The Guinness Book of World Records has cited it as the longest-running television drama.
It began as a 15-minute serial on NBC Radio in January 1937 and debuted on CBS television in 1952, focusing on the Bauer family of Springfield.

The U.S Postal Service will be issuing new stamps sometime this year that will pay tribute to “The Simpsons”. Since they have become American icons and it is the show’s 20th anniversay this year, they definitely deserve the extra publicity. The stamps will feature Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson and will be designed by the show’s creator and executive producer, Matt Groening.

According to an Ohio police report, Kile Wygle, 28, crashed his bar stool near his Newark home and called 911 due to his injuries. When an officer arrived and asked Wygle what happened, he truthfully answered, “I wrecked my bar stool.” Wygle proudly added that the stool was capable of 38 miles per hour.
A plastered Wygle, who admitted to drinking 15 beers, was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license, both misdemeanors. His bar stool was not impounded. Source
