When your band is defined by unique vocals and giant hair, how do you survive after your lead singer has split? Apparently, you search YouTube until you find someone who can sing while simmultaneously rocking the “I Got Kicked Off of American Idol” look and emo-haircut.
Arnel Pineda, who has grabbed the mic and taken Steve Perry’s place as Journey’s frontman, was actually singing for a cover band in the Phillipines and posting some of his performances online. The band saw some of his covers on YouTube and decided to bring him in for an audition.
The video above is from the band’s recent stop at CBS’ The Early Show. What do you all think – is he a good fill in for Steve Perry or not-so-much?

Since Arnel has joined the band, he’s brought an edgier vibe. This year alone Journey performed at metal rockfests in Europe such as in Download fest (UK), Graspop (Belgium) and Kobetasonik (Spain).
