Eric Clapton took to the cricket pitch this week for a charity match against England’s Bunbury Cricket Club. Clapton assembled a team called the Eric Clapton XI, which included Steve Crook, frontman for indie rock band Juliet The Sun.
According to Crook, who is also a pro cricketer, Clapton did quite well after some coaching.
“He got 15 runs after I gave him some tips on his forward defensive stroke,” Crook told U.K. publication The Sun. “I was really shy but mentioned my band and he wished us luck and put us in contact with his legendary former manager David English . . . Next summer if I play for his team again I might even ask if he’ll jam with us.”
The charity event comes amid a full schedule for Clapton. He recently appeared on the new Jay Leno Show alongside Bruce Hornsby, and is currently preparing for a pair of co-headlining dates with Jeff Beck at London’s O2 Arena in February.
