McCartney Honored As Songwriter Of The Year At ASCAP Awards

Paul McCartney took home the Songwriter of the Year honor at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Awards in London on Wednesday.

In a year that has seen the release of the remastered Beatles album catalog and the The Beatles: Rock Band video game, McCartney was recognized for such songs as “All You Need Is Love,” “Come Together” and “Hello Goodbye.”

Also receiving honors for songs at the ASCAP Awards, which recognized the most performed songs in 2008 by writer and publisher members of the U.K. collecting society, PRS for Music, were AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, U2, Roger Waters, Phil Collins, and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Song of the Year honors went to Coldplay for “Viva La Vida,” the lead single from their 2008 album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.

Rumor is… McCartney might be headed out on a 2010 tour with a special stop in Chicago. We’ll keep you posted.
