While we got lucky this year with Halloween falling on a Saturday you must remember that we as Americans do not always celebrate this priviledge. Many a year, Halloween falls on a weekday which means curtailing the festivities so that one can be functional for work and school in the morning or partaking in random Halloween celebrations on weekends beforehand, but not everyone gets the memo. Then all of a sudden, you’re the only guy at the bar dressed in a costume, because Google Maps sent you to the other Jim’s Sports Bar on the other side of town that isn’t holding their annual Costume Contest and now everyone is looking at your weird and the bouncer is wondering what possessed you to leave the house dressed as a giant banana. Believe us. Jack has been there before. We understand the importance of Saturday night Halloween-ing.
Which is why all of us here at JACK agree with the Halloweekend Movement, which is taking issue with the years when a weekday 31rst means party foul for everyone. The petition calls for moving Halloween from October 31rst to the last Saturday in October. It would spell pure awesomeness for every Trick-or-Treater and all the adults who have yet to outgrow their dreams of dressing as a superhero. You too can join the cause at SpiritHalloweekend.com.
We can debate health care tomorrow, Mr. President – the time to decide is now!
