[CBS News] Jack FM’s favorite one-armed drummer is doing more than just rocking our faces off. Def Leppard’s Rick Allen talked at length during an interview on CBS’ Early Show about using his personal story of triumph over tragedy to help inspire wounded vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rick Allen’s story of overcoming the loss of his left arm in a car accident and continuing to drum in one of the biggest rock bands of the 1980s has long been considered one of the most awe-inspiring tales in the world of music.

Allen’s organization, Raven Drum, helps troops who have sufferred life-altering traumas to celebrate their uniqueness and find a light during some of the darkest moments of their lives.

Def Leppard was set to begin the third leg of their North American tour last week, but had to cancel due to “unforseen circumstances”. While it sucks that we won’t see them on stage, you can still see their touring partners, Cheap Trick, live and in charge at Jack’s Cheap Christmas on December 10th at Allstate Arena.

Late Late Show Blackout

October 28th, 2009  |  Filed under: Jack's Entertainment News

During last night’s taping of the Late Late Show, 70 mph winds in California knocked out the lights leaving host Craig Ferguson in the dark mid-interview with actress Alicia Silverstone. Instead of stopping the tape, they handed the comedian a flashlight so he could continue on with the show.

Craig Ferguson, who is notorious for using puppets and extreme close-ups during his show, adapted quickly and managed to turn the technical difficulty into late night gold.

The high winds also managed to knock out power around the greater Los Angeles area. You can watch the entire episode at CBS.com.

ESSEX, Md. (AP) – A Baltimore city police officer delivered the fright of a lifetime to a haunted house employee, pulling a gun on the chain-saw-wielding man at the end of his act, authorities said Monday.

Sgt. Eric Janik, 37, was charged with assault and reckless endangerment for pointing his service handgun at the worker, who was dressed as Leatherface, the killer from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” Baltimore County police said.

The employee, Mike Morrison, followed Janik and several other people up a staircase Sunday night at the end of the haunted house tour in a bid to get “one last scream” out of them, police said.

When the group exited into a parking lot, Janik pulled his gun and pointed it at Morrison from less than 10 feet away, according to police and Morrison, who said he dropped the chain saw, put his hands up and backed away. The saw had no chain.

Only then did Janik identify himself as a police officer, said Morrison, who retreated into the building.

“I started shaking pretty bad,” he told The Associated Press.

Another employee of the House of Screams called police.

According to charging documents, Janik smelled of alcohol and told police two different stories about what he did with the gun. First, he denied drawing the weapon, but later he said he pointed it at the ground.

CTA officials confirmed that they are talking with Apple about overhauling the North and Clybourn Red Line station for a $4 million dollar price tag. In addition to getting their choice of the best advertising space, Apple could receive naming rights to the station if the deal goes through.

Perhaps we’ll see mobile charging stations, software centers and Apple care representitives as well. Good way to save some time and lines at the Apple store.
