ATLANTA (AP) – Celebrity chef Paula Deen got an unexpected serving of ham – across her face.
The Food Network star was helping unload 25,000 pounds of donated meat for an Atlanta food bank on Monday when someone threw one of the hams like a football and accidentally smacked her.Deen tells WGCL-TV: “I thought it busted my lip, but it didn’t.”
Though smiles and laughter, Deen added: “I’m OK. It just knocked me for a little bit.”
She says she was unloading hams when she tossed one to a man, who then said “Back at ‘ya.” Thinking he meant it only as a sentiment, she turned around to get another ham when the errant swine came at her.
“He really meant, ‘Back at ‘ya.’”
Later, she tweeted: “I haven’t met the ham that could stop me yet!”
Hopefully your family doesn’t throw meat in your face this Thanksgiving!
Alice in Chains recently announced that they will get hit the road again for a North American tour after wrapping up their current string of shows in Europe.
The band will play two shows this month, one at Las Vegas’ The Joint on December 11 and one in Universal City, Calif., at the Gibson Amphitheater on December 12.
Alice in Chains will then kick off the rest of their extended tour at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver on February 2.
The string of shows follows the band’s recent album, Black Gives Way to Blue, their first release in 14 years. It was produced by Nick Raskulinecz in Dave Grohl’s private Studio 606 in Northridge, Calif., and at Henson Studios in Hollywood.
The recent album also marks the debut of new singer William DuVall, who replaced original singer Layne Staley after he died from a drug overdose in 2002.
Alice in Chains is headed to the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on March 20th, 2010.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are set to release The Live Anthology today. The four-CD set features 48 of the best live performances given by the band over their multi-decade career.
A standard edition of The Live Anthology will be in stores on Tuesday, with a deluxe version to appear exclusively at Best Buy on Sunday.
The deluxe version includes a 14-track fifth disc, a deluxe booklet with Petty’s song-by-song commentary and two bonus DVDs that feature a 1978 New Year’s Eve performance in Santa Monica, Calif., and a documentary shot during the 1995 Wildflowers tour.
The tracks were recorded all over the U.S., but one location in particular is heavily featured on the anthology. The band opted to include eight tracks from a performance in their hometown of Gainesville, Fla.
“We found that when we were going through the tapes, every time we went there, we played really good,” Petty wrote in his comments on “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.”
The Live Anthology will feature hits and classic original cuts, as well as several of the band’s favorite cover tunes, such as the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well,” James Brown’s “Good, Good Lovin’” and Booker T. and the MGs‘ “Green Onions.”

[CBS News] “Chic” and “style” aren’t usually words one uses when describing the home of the Big Mac. But McDonald’s is trying to add some more modern flare into their urban eateries. Stocked with a new design, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and upholstered vinyl chairs are just some of the changes seen in the first of many “McDonald Makeovers” in Manhattan.
While we’re not sure how long the hip, Euro-inspired McDonalds will last, JACK wants to know why Manhattan gets it first. Weren’t the first golden arches in Des Plaines? Is Rock ‘N Roll McDonalds not good enough for a makeover. Tsk tsk, McD’s. Tsk tsk indeed.
(CBS) Ordering a medium popcorn and soda combo from a major national movie theater chain is the equivalent of eating three McDonald’s Quarter Pounders with 12 pats of butter, according to a new study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
According to laboratory analysis conducted by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI), the concessions from Regal, the country’s biggest movie chain, have 1,160 calories and three days worth – 60 grams – of fat. Regal said that the medium popcorn had 720 calories and the large had 960, but CSPI’s tests found those numbers to be understated. A small popcorn at Regal had 670 calories – the same as a Pizza Hut Personal Pepperoni Pan Pizza. Even if you share a small popcorn – it’s still about a day’s worth of saturated fat per person, according to CSPI.
“It’s hard enough for Americans to maintain a healthy weight even when limiting their eating to breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” said CSPI senior nutritionist Jayne Hurley. “Who realizes that they might be taking in a meal’s worth of calories during a movie? Splitting a medium popcorn with two other people sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but who would think they’re getting an entire day’s worth of saturated fat?”
So JACK FM sends out a warning to the hoards of people heading out to see New Moon, or that new Sandra Bullock movie this weekend: skip the popcorn and go for a box of Sour Patch Kids or something.
Google’s gift to you this holiday season: free Wi-Fi. The internet supergiant has announced it will give weary travelers access to free Wi-Fi at 47 airports across the country this season. Neither Midway or O’Hare made the list, but those of you traveling to Las Vegas, Boston, Indianapolis, Seattle, Miami, and Orlando (to name a few) will certainly benefit on those 8 hour delays when your plane’s engine decides to fall out five minute before boarding.
Yahoo has fired back with free Wi-Fi in Times Square… but who cares about New York?
[Philly.com] College students are notorious for being cheap, but sometimes it might be warranted. Two 22 year olds ended up in cuffs after a night at the bar – and not because of over-consumption.
The two students were at the Lehigh Pub in Bethleham, PA with a group of friends. The establishment adds 18% gratuity to every group over 6, but the students were pretty upset when they felt the “gratuity” was undeserved.
The students told police they had to find their own napkins and silverware, get their own refills from the bar, and wait over an hour for wings and a salad while their waitress was outside on a smoke break.
The 18% tip added up to $16.35, something the students felt was unnecessary. The bar then called police after the group refused to pay, arresting two students for “theft”. They go to court next month.
What Jack wants to know – how did they manage to spend over an hour at a bar with food and drinks for 6 people and only spend $73???
