[CBS News] In 1898, railworkers in building the Uganda Railroad across Kenya became prey for a pair of man-eating lions said to terrorize the laborers night after night. The British Parliament debated shutting down construction of the railway after it was said that the ferocious beasts had eaten upwards of 135 humans.
The lions have been on display at the Field Museum for several years, but scientists only recently uncovered the total number of humans who met their end by the wild hunters. Comparing nitrogen levels in the teeth, scientists decided that one of the lions’ diet in the last months of his life consisted of 50% human flesh, and estimate he ate 24 people. The other they think consumed 11. While 35 is still a pretty high number for a pair of lions terrorizing the Kenyan countryside, it is far less than the 135 claimed by Lt. Col. John H. Patterson who killed the lions. You may also know him as Val Kilmer.
Scientists do agree that while the pair only consumed 35 people, they number actually killed could be higher.
The way Jack sees it: 135 or not, those two stuffed beasts at the Field Museum still pretty terrifying and The Ghost in the Darkness is still an awesome flick. We’re just glad the only wild cats prowling Chicago are the cougars down on Rush & Division.

The music biz is notorious for recycling old songs with new artists. I mean, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. But there are actually a couple HUGE MASSIVE HITS that you might be surprised to know were actually covers of older songs. The guys at Gunaxin.com did the legwork and have 11 of them including songs about getting ‘respect’, avoiding ‘tainted love’, and revving it up like a deuce.

It’s Friday, so you should need no other reason to grab a drink after work and celebrate the end of the week. But not everyday is a weekend which is why sometimes you need an extra reason to celebrate a regular ol’ Tuesday.
For that – we turn to the fine folks at Google who apart from running the universe also have a “module” that you can add to your personalized Google account highlighting a reason to celebrate every day of the year.
Today’s reason:

Hollywood, VH1, Bret Michaels: some people just won’t let the ’80s die. But it isn’t just the industry trying to squeeze out every last buck of the decade. Just the other day I saw a girl with a full-on side ponytail buying groceries. She looked ridiculous.
But thanks to the internet, we can find even more ’80s afficionados keeping trends alive and well. One of which is prank calling a rather famous phone number looking for “Jenny”. Ever since Tommy Tutone reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “867-5309/Jenny” the number has been notorious for random call-ins just checking to see who is on the other line.
In 2007, one fan took it a step further, scanning every single area code in America to see just who was on the end of 867-5309 in that locale. You can see the entire list here, but we already pulled out the local Chicago numbers for you to check out:
224 Cannot be completed as dialed
312 Line Being Checked for Trouble
331 Inactive Number
630 Sorry that pager number is invalid
708 The number you have reached, has been disconnected.
773 The number you have reached, has been disconnected.
815 The Nextel number you are trying to reach is no longer in service
Sorry Chicago - no Jenny's here.
