4 Non Blondes

Artist Info
Band: 4 Non Blondes
Origin: San Francisco, CA
Top Songs: What’s Up
Original Band Members: They consisted of bassist Christa Hillhouse, guitarist Shaunna Hall, drummer Wanda Day and vocalist Linda Perry.
Genre: Rock
Years Active: 1989 – 1995
Fun Facts: The band picked the name, 4 Non Blondes, after an incident in a San Francisco park where the band members were having pizza. Apparently, a family was walking by, and their little boy wanted to grab some left over pizza to feed the birds. He was told by his parents, “No, don’t touch that, that’s dirty from all the birds and people around here,” and they proceeded to give the band members a dirty look. The family was supposedly “very blonde”, so they decided to call themselves 4 Non Blondes.
Lead vocalist Perry went solo in 1995 and the group disbanded after recording, but not releasing, their second album. Perry has since released solo work, and produced songs on hit albums by Alicia Keys, Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Kelly Clarkson.
Founding guitarist, Shaunna Hall, became an official member of George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic in 2007, making her the first female band member in the bands’ 35 + year history.

Band Bio:
4 Non Blondes howled their way onto the charts in 1993 with “What’s Up?” and then vanished without a whisper. Formed in 1989 with Linda Perry (vocals), Shaunna Hall (guitar), Christa Hillhouse (bass), and Wanda Day (drums), 4 Non Blondes had no problems attracting major labels based on live shows and local radio support from KUSF, but the labels didn’t know how to market them. After Day was replaced by Dawn Richardson, the group was eventually signed to Interscope Records and released Bigger, Better, Faster, More? in 1992. Although Hall contributed guitar tracks and some songs, she left before the album was released (replaced by Roger Rocha for the tour). Dominated by Perry’s high-pitched singing, “What’s Up?” was slowly added to modern rock stations and then crossed over into the mainstream, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Top 200. The video for “What’s Up?” became a smash on MTV, propelling sales of the album to over six million copies worldwide. “What’s Up?” was selected as Best Song by the Bay Area Music Awards; moreover, Perry was chosen as Best Female Vocalist and Bigger, Better, Faster, More? won for Best Album. The group toured with Neil Young, Pearl Jam, and Bob Dylan. The band recorded tunes for the soundtracks to Wayne’s World 2 and Airheads. However, Perry felt that the group had become too pop; consequently, she left 4 Non Blondes. She released her solo debut, In Flight, in 1995. Perry departed from Interscope Records in 1998 and recorded her second full-length, After Hours, for her own label, Rockstar Records. Michael Sutton, All Music Guide

For all of you heading to company Xmas Parties or Ugly Sweater Shindigs this weekend, we really feel your Holiday themed playlists just wouldn’t be the same without this addition.

Lifted from Stephen Colbert’s Christmas Special last year on Comedy Central, this is John Legend performing “Nutmeg”. Word to wise – maybe don’t play this at work if no one has a sense of humor. Or if they’re old.

[News Channel 9]   It’s the holidays. Time for wrapping paper, shiny lights, and plenty of “cheer”. And in Chattanooga Tennessee, “cheer” is a nice way of labeling this little gem we found on the local news.

Early Tuesday morning, Chattanooga Police found a 4-year-old child wandering the streets of his neighborhood at 1:45am… wearing a little girl’s dress… and drinking a beer.

Oh, and the dress? That was one of five Christmas presents the boy stole from under his neighbor’s Christmas Tree when he broke into their house from an unlocked door.

There are so many red flags in this one we can’t even begin to dissect it right now. But here’s a link to the story because we KNOW you’ll want to share it with others.
