JACK’s favorite “boy band” is getting the Behind the Music treatment this Sunday. Genesis will be featured this weekend as part of the new Behind the Music Remastered series on VH1 Classic. The new shows pick up where the old BTM profiles left off on eight iconic rock bands. The Remastered version will include new videos, interviews, and live performance clips from the bands over the past decade. Other JACK artists getting the treatment in the new series include Motley Crue, Metallica, Judas Preist, Def Leppard, and John Lennon.

The Genesis show will debut this Saturday, February 20th at 10pm ET on VH1 Classic. From the clips we’ve seen, the show will be a highlight for any Genesis fan – Gabriel and Collins camps alike. Including footage from the Collins-Rutherford-Banks 2007 reunited tour and info on their upcoming induction into the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame this year.

See below for an exclusive sneak peek.

Whether you like it or not, this weekend marks the biggest “date night” of the year. So if you’re having relations of any sort on a regular basis, chances are pretty good your Sunday evening is already booked. Because Valentine’s Day lands on a weekend again this year, all of you guys out there in committed relationships will probably have to leave the comfort of your own home and pony up some cash for a night out on the town. Dinner and a movie is a common choice for couples and since our annual celebration of Saint Valentine was created solely for females, it is only fair that the girl in your life gets to pick the screening you two will attend.

JACK FM has gone ahead and figured out 8 V-Day Movies you may be forced to sit through to appease your girlfriend/wife/significant-other this weekend, and some pointers if you want to survive them.

Dear John

PLOT: A soldier falls in love with a college student while home on leave and the two of them send love letters to each other. No one at Jack has seen it yet but we can safely assume it is probably filled with a whole lot of talking, passionate make-out scenes in rainstorms, and at least one song by The Fray. Vomitinourmouth.

WHY SHE WANTS TO SEE IT: Three reasons – (1) written by the same guy who penned The Notebook, (2) she secretly wants to date a soldier, and (3) she secretly wants to date Channing Tatum.

SAVING GRACE: None. Not only does the lead female Amanda Seyfried look eerily like an alien extra from District 9, you know the storyline is just going to be flat-out painful to watch. If you find yourself with this ticket stub in your pocket, just know you probably did something wrong.

As much as most of Chicagoans loved to see The Saints pull out the unlikely victory and prove the NFC has some life in it yet, the action on the field is only part of the draw for Super Bowl audiences.

The commercials have become just as exciting as the gridiron. We selected some of our favorites:

[CBS News] Despite expanding the field in Best Picture to 10 for the first time this year, not a single comedy made the list. (500) Days of Summer and The Hangover have both gotten their critical acclaim nationwide, the latter even picked up a Golden Globe. But the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who nominate the films each year for the Oscars apparently still hate laughing.

We shouldn’t be surprised when our favorite films don’t make a dent on the list each year. The Dark Knight, besides being one of the highest grossing films ever (not to mention extremely badass), was snubbed big time last year and this year similar blockbusters including Star Trek, Where the Wild Things Are, and Public Enemies. Heck, Mr. Oscar himself Clint Eastwood didn’t even get a nod this year for his film Invictus. I guess that’ll be the last time he makes a movie without Hillary Swank.

This is not to say that all the films on this year’s Best Picture list aren’t great films. Hurt Locker (pictured above) is probably one of the most intense movies in years and Avatar has redefined what it means to make a Sci-Fi flick. But we’re still a little upset that we won’t get the chance to see Zach Galifianakis make an acceptance speech this year. That would have been pretty epic.

“We Are The World” Redux

February 1st, 2010  |  Filed under: Jack's Entertainment News

Picture this. It’s 1985. The superpowers are gripped by the Cold War, America has New Coke, and Michael J. Fox has a flux capicitor.

‘85 was also a landmark year for charitable music stylings as Michael Jackson and his supergroup of musicians releases the hugely popular “We Are The World”. The group going under the name USA for Africa included Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Perry, and Paul Simon to name a few. The song topped music charts worldwide and became the fastest selling single in music history. According to Wikipedia, as of 2009, the song has raised over $63 million in humanitarian aid in Africa.

But with Haiti fresh on everyone’s minds, original producer Quincy Jones is apparently shopping a remake around LA to raise money for the poverty-stricken country.

Who knows who they’ll ask, but we doubt Jack is on the short list.

Lady Gaga has all the qualities of a Pop Diva. She’s won some Grammy’s, she’s cancelled shows last minute for no reason, and she is adored by teenage girls and Boystown bar-goers. But what drives home the “diva” title is her ridiculous outfits. From crazy masks to weird hair concoctions, the girl seems to never leave the house without something insane attached to her face.

At last night’s Grammy Awards, she was photographed back stage with what looks like the Agrocrag from Nickelodeon’s show GUTS perched atop her dome.

Jack has put together some other ideas for the stylista because she must be nearing the bottom of her “ridiculous hat” barrel.

Public Service Announcement Billboards

With all of the attention on Lady Gaga these days, Jack feels she could do a lot of good. Maybe donate her head to helping promote reading programs and keeping kids in school.

A LIVE BADGER

Adding wildlife to her ‘do’ would not only help Gaga connect better to nature, but a ferocious forest beast such as a badger would be perfect paparazzi repellent.

15 MINUTES

Her 15 Minutes of Fame must be running out, so she might as well flaunt it while it’s still available. Was that too harsh?

10-GALLON HAT

Ten Gallon Hats are a lot like moustaches – they make you look awesome, regardless of gender. No doubt in our mind that Gaga could rock a comically over-sized piece of Americana.

BACON

Uh, who doesn’t love bacon?

The most rocking performance from last night’s Grammy Awards goes to guitar God Jeff Beck who paid homage to Les Paul who passed away this past August at the age of 94. Les Paul, who current generations know best as a brand of Gibson electric guitar, was the original axe-master creating the hard body electric guitar that made Rock ‘n Roll possible.

Jeff Beck rocked an awesome version of Les Paul’s classic “How High the Moon” and showed the world why the former Yardbird-er completely deserved his induction into the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame last April. Beck also took home a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance last night for his rendition of The Beatle’s “Day in the Life” which you can watch below.

[CBS News]     America’s favorite Diff’rent Strokes star is in the headlines again. Gary Coleman, now 41 years old, recently booked a night in the Utah County jail. Reports are still unclear what he was picked up for, some news outlets reporting Coleman was arrested on “suspicion of domestic assault” while the Santaquin police department is saying the former childhood star was brought in after he failed to show up to court for a previous incident.

Either way, the mug shot seen here is almost as good as Nick Nolte’s.

Conan’s Last Night

January 22nd, 2010  |  Filed under: Daily Post, Jack's Entertainment News

Tonight is Conan O’Brien’s finale of “The Tonight Show.” His final guests will be Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, and Neil Young. Will you be watching?

Under the terms of his $45 million exit deal, it will probably be his last chance to put down NBC, otherwise he will lose some of his money.

Watch these videos below and relive your favorite Conan moments:

Starting off on the right foot- his very first moment in “The Tonight Show” spotlight

Shatner vs. Palin- In December, dueling dramatic readings made for one the most memorable bits on any version of “The Tonight Show.”

Twitter Tracker- Celebrating the banality of celebrity tweets, O’Brien began a new “Tonight Show” tradition with “Twitter Tracker!”

Going out on a high note- O’Brien’s last nights certainly make for some of his best.

[CBS News]   The King of Pop is getting another big-award-show-posthumous send off at this year’s Grammy Awards. Apparently, talks had been occurring between the show’s producers and Jackson before his death on ways to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Thriller. But whether those talks entailed this, we’ll never know.

A giant MJ will appear on stage alongside images of nature performing “Earth Song”… in 3-D. Good idea, because this doesn’t sound terrifying. It is nothing against Michael Jackson – I just have a deep-seeded fear of giants. Add in those killer dance moves and “Thriller” zombies… something tells me I won’t be sleeping well for the month of February.

If you want to get in on the action, you can pick up a pair of “Grammy” glasses at Target stores nationwide between January 24th and day of the show, January 31rst. The 52nd annual Grammys will be broadcast on CBS from the Staples Center that night at 7:00PM CT.
